general_chang: Chang first greeting Kirk (Default)
[One minute he was stepping through the door, the next she was standing in the middle of a hallway. She looked down at herself, dressed in a suit. Then she brought her hand to her stomach. Her responses was loud enough to be heard down the hall.] Hu'tegh!

[Brax is out of his bedroom and down into the hall in a moment. He lifts his eyebrows in concern, opting not to act like he has no idea who this is.] Are you quite all right?
[Chang recognises him from the library where they both lurk, so she has no such concerns.] I am a human female. [She looks down at her stomach.] And with child.

Oh, congratulations. Who is the lucky father? [Then Braxiatel realises that the father is him.] Ah. Well, it's only for four days.
[She gives him an icy look at the question. The only reason he's not on floor right now is that she's aware of who is to blame.] I look forward to the flood that makes the Admiral solid.

[Brax can handle it: he's in love with the Ice Maiden. He endeavours to look unruffled and calm.] I'm sure that will be a delight for us all, but just presently, we do have lives to get on with. There's the possibility that others in the household aren't—[Aliens stuck in human bodies? How to put this delicately.]—that they're right where they belong.
[Chang looks away to the other doors in the corridor.] Agreed. [She looks down at her feet, rolling back and forth on her heels, testing her balance before stepping forward, at first awkwardly, but by the time she reaches the stairs, she's quite steady.] Are you aware of our identities, Irving Braxiatel?

[He'll wait on getting Chang's real name for now.] Yes, actually. [He pulls his wallet from his pocket, then draws out a driver's license for Chang to look at.] We can try the kitchen for emergency contact information.
[Oh, right, pockets. She pats herself down and emerges with a set of keys which she drops onto the hall table as soon as she arrives down that far. Several pens. A blackberry, which she examines.] This is not our first child. [She hands it over to him to show him a family portrait, very proper looking, though it managed to make its way to her wallpaper.]

[He notices that.] How sentimental of you, my dear. [He pulls out his own blackberry.] According to this, I'm to buy noodles for 'Adam' on my way home from work.
Adam. [She absorbs that information while still checking out her pockets pulling out a small object. She fiddles with it for a second before a blade pops out.] Sentimental of you also. [She points out what is written on it: ]

Concealed weaponry as a gift? What a household we must be. [He's beginning to work out what his personal notes say, which is a little concerning.] I checked my closet, before I came. I store some schoolwork there. Lana Braxiatel's. [But not Adam Chang's. Still, there was a knife on his dresser drawer.]
[She folds it back.] Lana. Why do you have her schoolwork? [It's a genuine question.] I am unfamiliar with human education.

Louise. [She's found her wallet.] Chang. I am a prosecutor. [This clearly pleases her.]

It's common practice here for parents to keep their children's work from past years. Sort of . . . mementos, of their growth and achievements. Especially if they're scrawls in crayon of the whole family, parents love that. I've never quite worked out why. [It occurs to him that he's going to need to work on shifting his language so he sounds like he considers himself a parent. Then it occurs to him that no, he won't have to do that. The human Irving Braxiatel never seemed to get the hang of it either.]

In a suit like that, you could hardly be defense. Does your your per—[no, wait]—personal digital assistant give you a schedule of any kind?
Ah! [She pauses.] Klingons do not do that. We keep the skin of our first kill, however. It is similar, in heart.

[Chang works the controls of the device.] Yes. I shall be busy.
collector: (you know you'll end up like the rest)
[Brax nods in affirmation without missing a beat.] Quite similar.

[He starts looking through his BlackBerry for emergency contact info, stopping at what appears to be Louise's work address. He turns it so Chang can see.] That would appear to be your workplace.
Edited Date: 20/1/11 08:17 pm (UTC)
[Chang looks at the address, and uses Google maps to bring up the location.] Hmm. Located in the centre. There is a number for you, but no address.
collector: (if a stranger turns up missing)
I'll have to look about more. Ah, well. If anybody from work complains, I'm sure I can take care of them.
Edited Date: 20/1/11 09:23 pm (UTC)
Perhaps you bring home correspondence. [She pointed to letters on floor, before picking up the accessories and replacing them.]

[Brax picks up the pile and starts shuffling. Everything for Chang gets one pile, everything for the house gets another, and Brax's stuff gets a third.] If all else fails, I can say my car broke down and insist on a coworker coming to get me.
Car. [She pulls a face but picks up her pile.] Do you have experience with such vehicles?

[There's a sliiight pause]

I haven't driven a 21st century anything in about five hundred years.
Then we will learn. [And it's as simple as that. She heads into the kitchen to look for food. Thank Kahless for the bowl of fruit. She tosses and apple at Brax and takes a banana for herself.]

[He catches the apple but doesn't eat yet.] Or you could call a cab. It'll be a little extra, but then, road accidents are also a little costly.

[He skims to the back of the kitchen calendar for emergency contact information. Oh look, there's the numbers for the Roberts next door. There's a certain lack of friends of the parents here, and still no information on where he works. And the letters didn't yet seem forthcoming either.]
[It goes against the grain a little bit, where he had no problem with using public transport on Qo'nos, he at least knew how to vehicle operated, should an emergency occur. So she addresses the decision not to eat.] You should consume food. Humans are weak, especially on an empty stomach. And you will need to be quick on your feet.

I'll make some croissants later. [The BlackBerry starts ringing.

Using Britney Spears's "Womanizer" as its ringtone.

Brax isn't startled by this choice of song; he just answers the call.]

Irving Braxiatel speaking. [pause, and then, warmly] Charles, I was wondering if you'd ring. [pause] No, postpone it. I'm not coming in today. [pause] I'm sure you don't mean to imply that I'd forget. I've been double-checking the equations and quite frankly, if I don't correct them, we'll have more to worry about than financial troubles. Or does a small nuclear explosion not register that high on your list of concerns? [He holds the phone away from his ear, because ow, that was a loud shout.] Your gift for calm dispassion never fails you, I am so pleased to see. Please try to control yourself. My wife is in the room.

[Braxiatel briefly glances up at Chang.] My dear, Charles says hello.

[And then back to the mobile.] Now. Listen to me very carefully. Tell them that we will have to put off the meeting for two days. We're in a very delicate stage of research, and we can't, in good conscience, give them a complete report until we're through. Say that we could report if we must, but that you'd feel very uncomfortable giving them potentially inaccurate information. And give them some figures and equations to look at, business people always like those.

It will be fine, Charles. Don't worry about a thing. I have it all under control. [A longer pause as Brax listens, and then the geniality is in full force.] Exactly. Good man. I'll explain everything tomorrow. See you then. [And he clicks off the mobile, triumphant. Caller ID gave the number and name of the institute. He can use the power of Google now!]
Croissants? [What are those?]

[Chang busies herself with the email feature, briefly acknowledging the greeting from Charles before going back to it. When Braxiatel ends the call, she makes the obvious conclusion.] You appear to work in primitive weapons design.

It could simply be a nuclear energy program. [He says it in a very mild voice, neither convinced nor attempting to convince anybody.] Croissants are a flaky, buttery pastry. [Suspecting that Chang isn't going to be the one cooking tonight...] Any food preferences? As I'll be staying here today. [TOMORROW WILL BE TAKE-OUT OR SOMETHING.]
[Chang wouldn't have cared anyway.] I have seen these.

No. [She's just got her human palate and wasn't picky the last time it happened.] I should leave. I will attempt to operate this vehicle. [She holds up her keys.] If I should fail, I will call a cab.

[He looks half-amused.] Try not to kill anybody.
[Chang smirks.] Good day, husband. [She grabs an initialed bag and opens the door.]
