Killing Rex was a pointless, dishonourable act. It served no purpose, it satisfied no vengeance, a weak feeble victim against a superior opponent.
I have considered offering myself as cha'dicH for him, so that honour may be sated, though now, it is too late. [He feels so empty, even as his blood is filled with the stuff.]
I was pissed at the guy, but that was pretty damn unreasonable. And his warden didn't deserve that.
I think he'll be okay now. Not the best display of society. Sometimes my people are goddamn stupid apes. All we know how to do is find excuses to throw shit at each other.
It was. I actually still think if he'd asked people he would have had a lot more support than he thought he would in confronting the Admiral. But this ship isn't really something I'd trust in just anybody's hands. I'm not sure it would have ended with escape.
Nothing was gained. Maybe one person felt better. But a lotta people felt worse.
How many murders have been in the inmate bathrooms?
The perfect thing to happen while you're watching television. We couldn't even put in panic buttons because someone would misuse it as quickly as someone needed it.
It's frustrating. You're wanting for honor. I'm wanting for duty.
Perhaps if the alarm acted as warden items did. Monitor lifesigns rather than manually pressing a button. It will not prevent the violence, but it will alert wardens of attack.
Because it belongs to one warden, whose inmate may be anywhere on board. If it sets off all items, then it is likely that a warden is close by to prevent the death.
I would rather it worked that way. [If it was the MiB, it probably would. But it's not, and probably either wardens would use it to slack off or other wardens would throw a fit that their inmate was their responsibility and no one else's.
At this point, returning to the MiB will be his reward for graduating someone. So he doesn't have this nonsense and he can bask in the glory of organization and bureaucracy for a while.]
Look, friend to friend, why do you think you're here, Chang? Or why is it that you've been told you're here?
During a critical period in my people's history, my planet's moon, Praxis, was destroyed from overmining. This served to poison the atmosphere.
The Chancellor whom I served sued for peace with the Federation. He had spoken of this to before, and while I realised it might be a good thing to bolster our defences at the time, when Praxis was destroyed, my perspective changed. I knew the Federation would like nothing more to offer assistance, insinuate themselves, and poison us in their own way.
From our position of weakness, there was nothing to stop them. So I took steps, collaborated with Starfleet officers to assassinate the Chancellor and blame it on one known for his racist stance.
Starfleet was quite willing to do this and further, kill their own president and blame that on us. I was killed before I knew how that panned out, but I have concluded that their plan failed and the peace conference was a success.
[He has to think about this for a while, letting it soak in as Chang is saying it. For one thing, he's so used to Earth being a neutral party that it's strange to have them doing more than hosting peace conferences and being of active interference. Their security, in his world, relies on neutrality.
However he's well acquainted with one human who betrayed his entire organization. Who decided that to control the Earth and do with it as he saw fit, he would plot to hand it over to stronger forces to do the conquering. This plot took decades to go through the motions.
He's quiet for a bit even after he stops explaining. Not because he's judging him, but he's thinking.]
The Borg came from the same universe, didn't they? Much later, I mean.
[He thinks maybe by that time they learned to appreciate the differences between them.] For the record, I've been involved in a lot of guiding my own civilization, but those Starfleet guys behind their end of the plot seem kinda like skeezes with their own agenda.
I'm glad there's a few of us humans here willing to hear you out, at least. I'd ask more, but I'm guessing there was a war involved and confidential information and there are actually Starfleet people here from some era or another.
Young people tend to be less stuck in their ways than cagey old bastards. [One of the reasons he misses Jay so badly.] Uhura... well the Uhura that was here, she's not going back to that universe. She went back to my world.
